Hacking Cassette Tape’ is an experimental project seeking to intervene in the system of cassette tape in many different ways. It is presented as a Hacked Cassette Tape Set.

The Hacked Tape Set is composed of 4 parts.

1

First one is a booklet. It takes the form of the booklet often seen in a casstte box to communicate lyrics or song information. It is a long spread with threefold. When you unfold the booklet, the title ‘Mix Tape’, which is made from tape, will gradually reveal itself. On the back of the spread are photographs of a hacked cassette tape installation. It features deconstructed cassette tapes whose components hanging in the air, presenting beautifual form and shadow on the wall.

The second is the cassette box, with magnetic coating pasted on it, forming a beautiful texture.

The third part is the cassette tape. It’s one of the tape featured in the installation. It has gone through deconstruction and then reassembled so the tape is a bit worn out. Also, part of its magnetic coating has been removed to form the texture on the box. The missing part is replaced by the corresponding lyrics on the tape.

Lastly, how do you feel like hearing what the tape sounds? You can check on the QR code on the wing of the booklet, where I uploaded the converted ‘Mix Tape’.
